6 Ways To Motivate Yourself To Take Action

ActionTaking action towards your dreams and goals is clearly vital, but it’s not always easy to stay consistent and build momentum. However, taking action is one of those important pieces to the puzzle along with proper planning and the drive to succeed. Those that take action are the ones that see results.

How do you motivate yourself to continue working toward your goals, especially when you face challenges? Although some strategies will motivate you more than others, it’s good to experiment with several different ways of finding your motivation. Then, when the chips are down, you can depend on one of these strategies to get back on track.

Try these techniques to motivate yourself to take action:

Break your goals into smaller more attainable steps. Especially if you’re working toward a bigger goal, break it up into a series of small steps that you know you can achieve. After each step, celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done. With small steps, you’ll be more likely to stay on task because your rewards come often.

Know your limits. You know yourself best and only you can identify your personal limits. If you move too slowly, you’ll know deep down that you could be taking more action. However, when you try to do too much, you risk burnout. Figure out that magic point where you can achieve success without much stress, and you’ll remain motivated to keep taking action.

Take away your distractions. There are some things that might be more likely to distract you than others. Remove yourself from these situations when you know that you need to be taking action. For example, if you’re a social person, perhaps you’ll need to stay away from friends and family during the times you want to work. Also, avoid surfing the net, video games, and television when it’s time to work.

Ask for the help you need.Don’t be afraid to get help from others. There’s only so much you can accomplish in one day all by yourself. It’s true that sometimes you’ll have to accomplish certain things on your own, but if there’s any way at all that someone else can help, consider that possibility and ask them.

Find an activity that energizes you.Sometimes you’ll find that there’s a period in the day where you go into a slump. Maybe you have trouble starting your engines in the morning, or perhaps it’s the afternoon that causes you to feel sluggish. In these times, find some activity to re-motivate and energize you. One thing that can energize you is a good exercise routine. It’ll get your heart rate up and send fresh oxygen to your brain. This will refresh you, help you think more clearly, and make you feel more like doing your work.

Keep a tight schedule.A good schedule and organized plan will help keep you motivated and on track. In the beginning phases of planning your goals, be very specific when deciding what you need to do and when. This way, when you complete a step, you won’t have to spend time figuring out what you’re supposed to do next.

If you want to succeed, you can do it through purposeful action. Just think about what you’ve done to accomplish goals in the past. Chances are you had a plan and followed through. It might not always be easy, but when you remain motivated, you’ll reach whatever goal you set out to accomplish!

7 Ways To Accept Yourself For Who You Are

StressAdapting yourself and your situation in life can be a difficult task. Do you tend to be more accepting of others’ mistakes than your own? If so, you’re being too hard on yourself! Those people aren’t better than you! You were created with a unique set of talents that no one else has. Plus, everyone makes mistakes. We’re only human!

Becoming more accepting of yourself and loving yourself for the fine person that you really are can lead you to greater happiness and a more fulfilling life.

Here are some excellent techniques you can use to help you better accept yourself:

Focus on your positive qualitiesEven though self-improvement is a good thing, it’s important that you identify and focus on your positive qualities, rather than concentrating on the qualities you feel negatively about. Maintaining this positive focus will not only help you better accept yourself, but it’ll also make it easier for you to attain your goals by utilizing your talents to boost yourself forward.

Consciously prevent negative thinking patternsNegative thinking can really snowball fast if you don’t get ahead of it. It’s okay to be in a bad mood every once in awhile and have some negative thoughts; it happens to everyone. The trick is in learning how to push those negative thoughts aside and replace them with something positive. Replace your negative thoughts about yourself with affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that affirm your positive qualities and help bring out the best in you. If you believe in yourself, you can do it. It’s really that simple.

Accept your imperfectionsAnother part of being human is having some imperfections. Instead of dwelling on the things you can’t change, accept them for what they are. Making the best of your life starts with accepting your imperfections.

Use positive self-talkPositive self-talk can help you achieve great things and change the way you think about yourself. Make it a point to give sincere compliments to yourself. Compliment yourself for the good things about your looks, your positive qualities, and every time you do something right. Do this each and every day until it becomes a habit.

Disregard what other people might think about your decisionsYou’ll never make everyone else happy. If you try, you’ll soon discover that, not only will other people still be unhappy, but you’ll also be exhausted and unhappy yourself. Make your own decisions according to your priorities and be confident that you’ve done what is right for you.

Avoid worryingWorrying will never help your situation. Rather than wasting your time by being engulfed in fear, take action to do what you can to make the situation better. If there’s nothing you can do to change it, focus on moving forward in other ways.

Try your best and accept that you’ve done what you couldDo your best every day and be proud of yourself for your efforts. Let go of any negative thoughts, such as being angry with yourself for not being able to accomplish an impossible feat. Even when you haven’t done your best, find a way to forgive yourself. Move on and commit to trying harder next time.

In changing the way you think about yourself, you’ll also change the way you see the world. Every day opens up new opportunities for you, and by utilizing positive thinking, you can make a real difference!

Book Review: The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

4-Hour Work WeekDo you wish that you could travel the world and enjoy everything that it has to offer while only working 4-hours a week. While this might sound impossible, it is exactly what Tim Ferris promises in his book, The 4-Hour Workweek : Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich.

In this book, Ferriss tells us that we can forget the old concept of retirement. He says that with smart lifestyle design, we don’t need to wait – we can have it all now. The 4-Hour Workweek offers us his blueprint for a life of travel and enjoyment financed by a 4-hour workweek.

Nominated as one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Business People of 2007,” Tim Ferriss runs his multinational firm from remote locations worldwide. He is a regular lecturer at Princeton University, where he presents entrepreneurship as a tool for ideal lifestyle design and world change. He has a diverse background and experience, including working as an actor, speaking seven foreign languages, holding a world record in tango, and being a national Chinese kickboxing champion.

In The 4-Hour Workweek, Ferriss uses the acronym DEAL for the four main sections of his book. This acronym stands for Definition, Elimination, Automation, and Liberation.

Definition – You define the ultimate goals for your life and then calculate the monthly income required to achieve these goals.

Elimination – You apply the “Pareto Principle” (80/20 rule) to remove the 80% of the stuff that doesn’t provide a major benefit to your life.

Automation You develop and implement an automatic and sustainable source of income. For him, this includes using websites and 800 numbers to sell products, and outsourcing the manufacturing and delivery of these products. While there is a lot of useful information in this section, Ferriss makes the idea of automating the development and sales of a product sound a little to easy.

Liberation – You liberate yourself from employment and geographical constraints. This may include either quitting your present job, or getting your employer to agree to”telecommuting” as a way to work less hours. Liberation provides the time that you will need to work on automating your own products. Ferriss points out that if you already have a regular job, you must liberate yourself prior to implementing the other three steps of his process.

The expanded and updated edition of The 4-Hour Workweek includes:

  • Practical tips and case studies from readers who have reinvented themselves using the original version of the book.
  • Examples and templates that you can use for eliminating email and negotiating with your boss.
  • Dozens of tools, tricks, and websites that you can use to help you with everything from starting your own company to traveling the world at a discount.

If you are looking for a book that will help you create your vision, become more effective, and spend more time traveling the world  this book is the book for you. If you are looking to escape the 9-5 by starting a company of your own   you will enjoy this book. This book is full of helpful information, and it is well worth the price for that reason alone. I recommend that you pick up a copy here, or borrow it from the library.

QuestionIs a 4-hour Work week something that you can aspire to, or is it’s too good to be true?

6 Tips To Balance Your Work And Home Life

BalanceTrying to maintain harmony between your work and home life can be a serious balancing act. You want both to go smoothly, but sometimes you’ll find that you’re paying too much attention to one and neglecting the other.

Instead of just getting frustrated, tell yourself that it’s time to stop struggling! There are some easy strategies you can use to help you.

Try these techniques to better balance your work and home life:

Use a planner. You can save yourself a lot of time just by planning out your days. Include both business and personal commitments to ensure that you’re using your time effectively.

Be flexible. While it’s important to plan a schedule, include room for a certain amount of flexibility. If you’re schedule is too rigid, it’s easy to become stressed out. Leave some time for new commitments and have a Plan B in mind for tasks that could take longer than anticipated.

Maintain communication. Many times you’re not the only one who’s suffering when you’re having trouble balancing your work and home life. Let your work partners know when you need to spend extra time with personal commitments and let your family know when work will be taking up extra time and focus. Make sure that you plan some extra quality time for the neglected party.

Have backups who you can call on. Even with good planning skills, sometimes things come up that tend to throw everything awry. This is when advance planning for someone to back you up will help you to stay on track. If you must be away from work for personal issues, have someone cover for you, if possible, so you’re not overwhelmed when you return to your regular schedule. If you need to spend too much time away from home due to work commitments, plan some fun with relatives or friends and have someone agree to help with things around the house. This way, you won’t face a total mess when you return to your regular home life.

Take breaks. Even on your busiest days, schedule in some time for yourself, even if it’s only 15 minutes of walking. This time gives you a chance to recoup from the stresses of the day and you can return to your tasks renewed and refreshed. Take short breaks at work, too. When you finish your break, you’ll be more productive.

Avoid wasting time with worrying. If you’re worried about home when you’re at work, and worried about work when you’re at home, then you aren’t truly using your time wisely. If your head isn’t in the moment, you’ll have a hard time spending quality time to get things done and moving forward. Focus on what you need to do in each moment and get it done so there’s more time left to do what you really want to do!

There are only a certain number of hours in the day, but you’ll have time for the things that are truly important to you as long as you use your time effectively. Use these tips to help you balance your work and home life, and you’ll find a greater harmony between the two!
