Book Review: Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt

PlatformIn his book, Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World, Michael Hyatt provides the details for building your platform. Michael says that, “Without a platform—something that enables you to get seen and heardyou don’t have a chance. Having an awesome product, an outstanding service, or a compelling cause is no longer enough.” He tells us that to be successful in the market today, we must possess two strategic assets: a compelling product and a meaningful platform. This book provides the step-by-step plan that you need to build your platform.

Michael Hyatt is a full-time blogger, author, and speaker. His blog, MichaelHyatt.com, is ranked by Google in the top one-half percent of all blogs with more than 300,000 unique visitors a month. He also has more than 120,000 followers on Twitter. Michael speaks from experience, and he is uniquely qualified to write on building a Platform.

Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World is divided into five parts:

Part One: Start with WOWYou must begin with a compelling product. This must be the best product that you can produce (don’t settle for second best), have a memorable name, and be designed exceed market expectations.

Part Two:Prepare to LaunchAfter you have created your “Wow” product, you need to develop Media Kits, a head shot, and endorsements to ensure that the product launch is successful.

Part Three: Build Your Home BaseThis is where you will focus most of your online efforts. This is also where you have most of the engagement with your online fans. Your blog is your home base.

Part Four: Expand Your ReachHow to use your Twitter and Facebook accounts to drive new fans to your blog. You accomplish this by giving away your time and talents and by sharing what you know with others.

Part Five Engage Your Tribe – Your tribe is engaged by involving them in meaningful online conversations.

In this book, Michael takes you behind the scenes of his own Platform. He shows you what he has done, and how he has done it. He uses his book to teach you how to win customers in today’s marketplace.

While much of Platform is reworked material from Michael’s blog, he does a good job of updating and reformating it. This book is packed with helpful, actionable tips that will help you become more effective with social media.
